Carol Schumacher is Professor of Mathematics at Kenyon College in Gambier, Oh. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Hendrix College in 1982 and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from The University of Texas at Austin in 1989. She joined the Kenyon faculty in the fall of 1988. She has served as department chair and won Kenyon’s trustee award for outstanding teaching in 2005. Carol is the author of Chapter Zero---Fundamental Notions of Abstract Mathematics, 2E. Chapter Zero is written for use in an introduction to proofs course that emphasizes inquiry-based learning. She is also the author of Closer and Closer: Introducing Real Analysis, a metric-space based introduction to Real Analysis which also uses an inquiry-based approach. She lives in Gambier, Ohio with her husband, her two daughters and two cats.
