Jeffrey Andrews

Jeffrey G. Andrews is the Cullen Trust for Higher Education Endowed Professor in the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He is primarily interested in the stochastic modeling and analysis of wireless communication networks, with the goal of better understanding their fundamental properties and how to best design communication protocols for dense, complex wireless networks.

Dr. Andrews is the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, an IEEE Fellow, an elected member of the Board of Governors of the IEEE Information Theory Society, and recipient of National Science Foundation CAREER award. He has worked full-time at Qualcomm and consulted for Verizon, Apple, Samsung, AT&T, ALU, Intel, Microsoft, Clearwire, and NASA, amongst others. His publications are among the most cited in the field of wireless communications, and include the books *Fundamentals of WiMAX *and* Fundamentals of LTE*, and eleven best paper awards. Ari Arapostathis is a professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. His research interests include analysis and estimation techniques for stochastic systems, the application of differential geometric methods to the design and analysis of control systems, and stochastic and adaptive control theory. François Baccelli is Simons Math+X Chair in Mathematics and ECE at UT Austin. His research directions are at the interface between Applied Mathematics (probability theory, stochastic geometry, dynamical systems) and Communications (network science, information theory, wireless networks). He is co-author of research monographs on point processes and queues (with P. Brémaud); max plus algebras and network dynamics (with G. Cohen, G. Olsder and J.P. Quadrat); stationary queuing networks (with P. Brémaud); stochastic geometry and wireless networks (with B. Blaszczyszyn). Before joining UT Austin, he held positions at INRIA, Ecole Normale Supérieure and Ecole Polytechnique. He received the France Télécom Prize of the French Academy of Sciences in 2002 and the ACM Sigmetrics Achievement Award in 2014. He is a co-recipient of the 2014 Stephen O. Rice Prize and of the Leonard G. Abraham Prize Awards of the IEEE Communications Theory Society. He is a member of the French Academy of Sciences and part time researcher at INRIA. Constantine received the A.B. degree in Mathematics from Harvard University, and the MS and Ph.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Since 2006 he has been on the ECE faculty at UT Austin. His interests include high dimensional inference and machine learning, optimization and control, and the theory of networks.

Ila Fiete

Ila Fiete is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at UT Austin. Fiete uses computational and theoretical approaches to understand the nature of distributed coding, error correction, and dynamical mechanisms that underlie representation and computation in the brain. A recent focus is on questions at the nexus of information and dynamics in neural systems, to understand how coding and statistics fundamentally constrain dynamics, and vice-versa.

Ila Fiete obtained her Ph.D. at Harvard under the guidance of Sebastian Seung at MIT. Her postdoctoral work was at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics at Santa Barbara, and at Caltech, where she was a Broad Fellow. Ila Fiete is a fellow in the Center for Learning and Memory and Center for Perceptual Systems at the University of Texas at Austin, a McKnight Scholar, an ONR Young Investigator, and a Simons Investigator as part of the SCGB. Robert W Heath Jr.is a Cullen Trust Endowed Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He is also President and CEO of MIMO Wireless Inc. His research interest lie at the intersection between applied math, wireless communication, and signal processing, with a recent focus on applications to millimeter wave wireless communication. He has received best paper awards in signal processing and communications, and has a number of highly cited papers. Joe Neeman

Dr. Joe Neeman has been a postdoctoral researcher in the UT Math and ECE departments since fall 2013, working with Sujay Sanghavi and Constantine Caramanis. He works in several areas of probability theory, including on random graphs, concentration phenomena, and isoperimetric problems in probability spaces. He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Statistics at UC Berkeley, advised by Elchanan Mossel. Beginning in the summer of 2015, he will be a W-2 Professor at the University of Bonn. Lorenzo Sadun is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Texas. His work spans a variety of areas related to geometry, dynamical systems, mathematical physics, and probability. He is currently working on projects on (1) phase transitions in random graphs, (2) topological dynamics of tiling dynamical systems, and (3) mass transport in aperiodic tilings. Sujay Sanghavi

Sujay is an Associate Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas, Austin, where he has been since 2009. He has a B. Tech from IIT Bombay, and an MS and PhD from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, all in Electrical Engineering; he also holds an MS in Mathematics. Sujay's interests lie in two fields: large-scale machine learning, with a focus on high-dimensional statistics, optimization, and techniques based on linear algebra, and large-scale networks. Sujay has the NSF CAREER award, and a Young Investigator Award from the Department of Defense. He has been a visiting scientist at Qualcomm and Google.

Sanjay Shakkottai received his Ph.D. from the ECE Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2002. He is with The University of Texas at Austin, where he is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He received the NSF CAREER award in 2004, and elected as an IEEE Fellow in 2014. His current research interests include network architectures, algorithms and performance analysis for wireless networks, and learning and inference over social networks.

Thibaud Taillefumier

Originally trained in Mathematical Physics, Thibaud Taillefumier completed his PhD in Biophysics under the supervision of Professor Marcelo Magnasco at The Rockefeller University. There, he developed novel analytical and computational techniques to characterize different modalities of neural coding and acquired experimental experience by performing electrophysiological recordings. As an Associate Research Scholar at Princeton, he expanded his work on neural assemblies within the framework of stochastic dynamics and non-equilibrium thermodynamics with Professor Curtis G. Callan, Jr. In parallel, he studied bacterial communities from the perspective of information and optimization theory with Professor Ned S. Wingreen. Thibaud Taillefumier is now an assistant professor jointly appointed by the Departments of Mathematics and Neuroscience at UT Austin. Thibaud Taillefumier is an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow.

Ngoc Mai Tran

Ngoc got her PhD in Statistics, UC Berkeley in 2013. Currently she is a Simons Postdoctoral Fellow / Instructor at UT Austin Mathematics Department. Her interest lies in probabilistic and combinatorial questions arising from tropical geometry and neuroscience. Some of her recent works are on decoding grid cells, commuting tropical matrices, and zeros of random tropical polynomials. Starting June 2015 she will be a W-2 Professor at the University of Bonn, Germany. She will then be an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics of UT Austin from the summer of 2016. Gustavo de Veciana is currently a Cullen Trust Professor of Engineering at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, UT Austin. His research focuses on the analysis and design of communication and computing networks, data-driven decision-making in man-machine systems, and applied probability and queueing theory. Dr. de Veciana served as editor and is currently serving as editor-at-large for the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking. He was the recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER Award 1996 and a co-recipient of five best paper awards including: IEEE William McCalla Best ICCAD Paper Award for 2000, Best Paper in ACM TODAES Jan 2002-2004, Best Paper in ITC 2010, Best Paper in ACM MSWIM 2010, and Best Paper IEEE INFOCOM 2014. In 2009 he was designated IEEE Fellow for his contributions to the analysis and design of communication networks. He currently serves on the board of trustees of IMDEA Networks Madrid.
