Line 7 of p. 483 of the published version contains an error; this is the sentence after the second displayed equation after (4.20). The error is that identity (2.3) is used even though xi might not be purely imaginary. Happily, (2.3) is not needed. The sentence may be replaced by "Taking xi z=y, we find that x(xi z)=(x xi)z for all octaves x and z."
