SYLLABUS: induction,  divisibility,  prime numbers,  fundamental theorem of
--------  arithmetic; congruences, applications, Chinese remainder theorem,
     Euler theorem; multiplicative functions, Möbius inversion, cryptology;
     primitive roots, index arithmetic; quadratic residues; cont. fractions

GRADING:  Letter grades (A,B,C,D,F) will be given for each     | 90 -100  A
-------   exam, but number grades  (100,99,..,2,1,0)  will     | 80 - 89  B
          be kept for averaging.  The course grade will be     | 70 - 79  C
          obtained  by averaging  the scores  of the three     | 60 - 69  D
          exams and of the homework.                           |  0 - 59  F

HOMEWORK  will be assigned every Tuesday and Friday, and collected in class
--------  the following Friday and Tueday, respectively. One homework score
          can be dropped, and the others contribute 10% to the class grade.

EXAMS:  There will be three 75-minute exams,   | Exam 1  ( Tu Jun 14 )  30%
