Mathematics Departmental Competitions

The Bennett contest exam is a competition held at The University of Texas Mathematics Department at the end of every regular semester. Participation is limited to UT students who are finishing the Calculus sequence that semester. The questions are based on the topics covered in the Calculus courses, but require more than the usual amount of persistence and cleverness. There are cash prizes for the top scorers.

We have recently held Bennett competitions in Linear Algebra and in Differential Equations as well, and hope to make each of these an annual event

UT students interested in taking the Putnam exam in December should check out the department's Putnam page . This is an extremely difficult exam in which the problems typically require an understanding of core undergraduate-level mathematics such as Real Analysis and Abstract Algebra. We hold weekly prep sessions every Fall.  If you would like to participate in the fall weekly study sessions please email me with your EID.

Student Organizations

One of the best ways to become more involved in the mathematics program is to participate in one of our many student organizations.  Here you meet faculty that can help answer questions regading courses, degree plans, jobs after graduation and more.  But more importantly you will meet other undergraduate mathematics majors that can offer even more advice and guidance.
