About me

I am an assistant professor in the mathematics department at the University of Texas at Austin. I am interested in geometric topology in dimensions 3–5, especially questions about knotted surfaces in 4-manifolds.

In my free time, I collect Rubik's Cubes and enjoy other puzzles like crosswords and acrostics.

Check out this Quanta article about a paper I co-authored in May 2022.

Organization

Here's the website for "Topology in Dimension 4.5," a conference I co-organized at BIRS in November 2022. You can access the compiled problems and some of the speakers' lecture notes there.

Other things I'm participating in

Ontario Topology Seminar, October 2025.

PCMI Summer school on knotted surfaces in 4-manifolds, July 2026.

MFO Workshop "Topologie," July 2026.

International Congress of Mathematicians, July 2026.

I am in two AIM SQuaREs. One is with Ryan Blair, Michel Boileau, Alexandra Kjuchukova, and Ella Pfaff. We are studying the meridional rank conjecture. The other SQuaRE includes Irving Dai, Abhishek Mallick, and Matthew Stoffregen. We are studying new obstructions to concordance.
