INFORMATION ABOUT FIRST EXAM (Thursday, October 14)
Problems will be (for most people) slightly easier on average than the problems
you have handed in so far.
Concepts and facts needed in solving the exam problems will mostly be those
that have been used in class, either in problems or in the transforming/
understanding exercises.
Grading will be on the basis of the first grading rubric, but standards for
writing will be slightly relaxed.
Suggestions for preparing for the exam:
- Review problems handed back. Pay attention to grader comments.
Be sure you understand concepts involved. Also go through the "looking back/forward"
questions to help you get the most from the problems.
- Review the problem Understanding Exercises, being sure to understand
any concepts and definitions involve, and think about how the exercises
or variations of them might be useful in solving problems.
- Try to get a good night's sleep before the exam, so your mind will
be functioning at its best.
