1. Read Section 4.4 You may omit Example 4c, but be sure to read everything
else (including the proofs of Proposition 4.1 and Corollary 4.1) carefully.
2. Practice problem on Section 4.4: A box contains 8 disks of radii 1, 2,
..., and 8, respectively.
a. What is the expected value of the circumference of
a disk selected at random from the box?
b. What is the expected value of the area of a disk selected
at random from the box?
3. Read from the middle of p. 191 through the first two lines of p. 195.
You may omit Lemma 2.1, its proof, and the proof of Proposition2.1, but try
to give a proof of Corollary 2.1 yourself.
4. Practice problem: p. 229 #14 (review Section 5.3 if you need to.)
