This course is based on a course of the same name taught by Professor Martha Smith from 2011 - 2016.
We have had many conversations over the years about these topics and I have always been grateful that, on this important subject, she organized her ideas and presented them to a wider audience than the students in her classes. I am honored that she asked me to take over offering this course when she "really retired."
The material I will present in this year's class is based on her work, which you can see from her website, but I have edited the presentation material to reflect my own ideas and some conversations with her about her ideas since May 2016, when she last taught it.
