StatsPortal for MATH 1342, Elementary Statistics

The codes for StatsPortal were supposed to be included with the new copies of the textbook sold in the bookstores, but they are not. Because this was a mixup from the publisher, for this semester only, they are giving us the activation codes for the teachers to distribute.

You will need to be enrolled in the class and show your book, with your name written in it, to your teacher to get the code. If you are still thinking about whether to stay in the class and don't want to write your name in the book because you might still want to return it, then you are not eligible to get StatsPortal yet. Your teacher will still have a code for you when you are ready to show him/her your book with your name written in it.

The access to StatsPortal is good for one person for 180 days. We expect that, about mid-February 2007, the publisher will announce a method by which, if you are unable to complete the course in one semester, you can extend your StatsPortal account long enough to finish another semester, using the same name and email address. (We can't guarantee this at this time, since it has not been officially announced.) Information about that will be posted here by the middle of February 2007.

To sign up for StatsPortal,

    • Find the activation code for StatsPortal that you received.
    • Go to http://www.whfreeman.com/portals/bps4e  and click on the link “Register Activation Code.”
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to find this course, by choosing Texas , University of Texas at Austin , your instructor’s name.
    • Give your email address and choose a password.

Sometimes students have difficulty at some step along the way and try to start over. Often they are unable to do so because their validation code has already been used - by them! If you have difficulty like that, then first determine whether you are registered in the system. Try to sign on, using your email address, and claim that you forgot your password. The system will try to send your password to the email address.

If that doesn't work, please call the technical support number for StatsPortal, (877) 708-2899, which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
