M302 is intended primarily for general liberal arts students. It may not be included in the major requirement for the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in mathematics. In some colleges, M302 cannot be counted toward the Area C requirement nor toward the total hours required for a degree. Only one of the following may be counted: M302, 303D, or 303F. A student may not earn credit for Mathematics 302 after having received credit for any calculus course.
Course Grading Out of 100 points, homework counts 10, quizzes 10, midterm test 25 each and final examination 30.
There is no fixed scale for converting scores to letter grades; I will try to
give guidance from time to time how the conversion appears to be heading.
Homework First you need to log in on Quest. Using Quest costs $25 per class with a maximum of $50 for more than two courses. There will be frequent problem sets due on Quest which will be graded. Also, there will be suggested homework problems from the textbook which will not be graded nor collected. Make sure that you can solve all the given problems as similar problems may appear on the quizzes and exams. The lowest two homework grades will be dropped. No late homework accepted for any reason.
Quizzes There will be in class quizzes and/or projects, possibly given without notice. There will be no make up quizzes or projects. The lowest quiz grade will be dropped.

Email to you: In this course, email will be used as a means of communication with students. You will be responsible for checking your email regularly for class work and announcements. Please be certain the University has your correct email address on record.
Email to the Instructor or TA: Emails to me and the TA should begin with "M302:" in the subject line, followed by a brief description of the purpose of your email. We receive enormous amounts of email, and if you follow this rule we will be better able to address your questions in a timely manner.

Religious holidays By UT Austin policy, you must notify me of your pending absence at least fourteen days prior to the date of observance of a religious holy day. If you must miss a class, an examination, a work assignment, or a project in order to observe a religious holy day, you will be given an opportunity to complete the missed work within a reasonable time after the absence.
Emergency evacuation policy Occupants of buildings on The University of Texas at Austin campus are required to evacuate buildings when a fire alarm is activated. Alarm activation or announcement requires exiting and assembling outside. Familiarize yourself with all exit doors of each classroom and building you may occupy. Remember that the nearest exit door may not be the one you used when entering the building. Students requiring assistance in evacuation shall inform their instructor in writing during the first week of class. In the event of an evacuation, follow the instruction of faculty or class instructors. Do not re-enter a building unless given instructions by the following: Austin Fire Department, The University of Texas at Austin Police Department, or Fire Prevention Services office.
