The Bennett Competitions return this semester (Fall 2020), in
both Calculus and Linear Algebra. However, because of the ongoing
pandemic lockdown, the competitions will be somewhat modified from
the usual pattern.

1. The exams will be held Wednesday, December 9. The Calculus competition
will run from 3pm until 5pm, and the Linear Algebra competition will
run from 6pm until 8pm (Austin time zone).

2. Students who completed M408D or M408M in Spring 2020 may paricipate
in the Calculus Competition along with the students who are finishing
the Calculus sequence this semester, since the competition was not held
last Spring. Likewise, students who completed M340L or M341 in the Spring
may participate in the Linear Algebra competition now.

3. The Student Honor Code at the University of Texas states, 
"As a student of The University of Texas at Austin, I shall abide
by the core values of the University and uphold academic integrity."
In the Bennett Competition, "academic integrity" means the participant
is expected to submit only those ideas which he or she has devised 
independently, without the assistance of any other person, electronic
tool, or academic resource (including books, papers, and web sites).

4. In order to be eligible to participate, students must send an email to
        rusin@math.utexas.edu 
by noon (Austin time) on Dec 9, indicating their interest. Their email 
must explicitly confirm their agreement to abide by the Honor Code.

5. Participants must log in to a Zoom session by the start of the exam,
with a camera allowing a view of their work space.

6. Answers must be submitted via an email postmarked by the close of the
competition. (Participants are encouraged to practice scanning and 
mailing multiple pages of mathematics, to be aware of how much time
they should allow for this.)

7. All work necessary to derive an answer to a question must be submitted.
(It is not necessary to submit attempted solutions that proved not to work.)
Points will be awarded according to the accuracy and completeness of
the solution.
