I started studying mathematics because I was lucky enough to participate in several math circles and competitions as a student, all of which piqued my interest by showing me a beautfiful side of mathematics: Puzzling over seemingly intractable problems until the solution became unfathomably obvious.
Since then, I have enjoyed passing on this excitement by joining some of the many fantastic outreach programs. I want to share some of these endeavours here because I am under the impression that in many places these efforts are only just beginning and it seems useful to see where they have already been implemented successfully. If you ever want to chat about any of these, please reach out!
- I am a member of eLeMeNTe e.V. (Website only in German)
This is a nonprofit organization in my home state of Sachsen-Anhalt that supports the development of K-12 students who are particularly interested and/or gifted in the STEM subjects. I have helped running workshops, grading exams at the competitions, mentoring students etc. Please also consider donating.
- UT's Sunday Morning Math Group
An outreach program directed at (Junior) High School students, teachers and parents in the greater Austin area. I have been a speaker and helped out supervising the students at the meetings.
- UT's Directed Reading Program
This is another initiative of the UT math department that pairs undergraduate students with graduate student mentors to learn about (advanced) mathematical subjects that cannot be covered by standard curricula. I have mentored students in a wide range of topics within Algebra, Geometry, Topology and Mathematical Physics.
