On April 5, 2014, Dr. Anna Spice asked us a simple question: if you go to a field covered in a regular grid of posts, and use four of the posts as the corners of a rectangular fence, how is the number of posts standing along the fence related to the number of posts enclosed by it? The answer wasn't too hard to find. But what if the fence is a right triangle? Or a trapezoid? Or an even weirder polygon? As the complexity spiraled upward, we just kept hoping that what we discovered at each stage of the puzzle would be enough to take us to the next one...
