On February 2, 2014, tired of stiff, boring, Euclidean-style geometry, we turned to graduate student and topologist Laura Starkston for a squishier point of view. Trading our compasses and straightedges for multicolored modeling clay, we set out to discover how stretchy surfaces like spheres and doughnuts can be built out of simpler ones.
