Hi everyone, and welcome back to SMMG! I'm the new coordinator, Jackson. Today we're going to learn to play a really fun game called "Two-Pile Nim" or just "Nim". This is a 2-player game, but you can also just play by yourself! First you want to gather some objects like pennies, M+Ms, or something like that. It doesn't really matter what you use. Now make two piles. You can put any number of objects in the piles. Now you need to decide who goes first. During your turn, you can take as many objects as you want from one of the piles, but you can't touch the other pile. You can only take objects out of one of the piles. Now player 2 does the same thing, and then you just alternate back and forth. You don't have to keep track of how many pieces you take, because the winner is determined by whoever takes the last piece. So whoever takes the last object wins. Now that you know how to play two-pile Nim, you can start thinking about the questions on the SMMG website! As always, please email us with any questions, if you think you figured it out, etc. There are also volunteer office hours on alternating Sundays at noon, so check out the SMMG website for the details and dates about that. Enjoy! Have fun with NIM!
