Introductory Seminar in Geometry and Topology Math 397S 60637 Tu Th 2:00-3:00 RLM 12.166 Karen Uhlenbeck As part of the RTG grant, the geometry goup is offerring a seminar for beginning students in geometry and topology.Such seminars, when held in the past, have been very succesful in introducing the students to each other and to the faculty, as well as offerring an oppotunity to read mathematics with some guidance. The number of students will be kept at a size which will allow each student to present matrial every two weeks. The initial reading will be on Morse theory from John Milnor's classic text. Further reading will be discussed in class. Professor Uhlenbeck is directing the seminar, but other faculty will attend from time to time, giving the students a chance to get to know the faculty in geometry (and topology).
