M 358K Assignment for Wednesday, February 22:
I. Turn in: Note: These problems are intended to help you get a feel for
sampling distributions. They all require computer use. Be sure to plan accordingly. See the handout Simulations on Minitab for instructions on how to do the simulations on Minitab.
- (p. 244) #3.74 Be careful to form p-hat correctly in part (c).
- (p. 245) #3.76 (a) and (b)
- Using the applet for Exercise 3.76 may be a little tedious,
because the applet doesn't seem to allow you to copy your samples to
other software to do the calculations easily. To see another way to do
this problem using Minitab, see Simulations on Minitab.
- In part (a), be sure to choose your numerical summary on
the basis of what type of numerical summary is best for the type of
distribution you found.
- You will be asked
to put your values for x-bar for each part on a class histogram, so be
sure to copy down these values before you turn in your homework.
- ( p. 245 - 246) #3.77 (a) and (b)
- The data set for this problem is in the Appendix folder of
the data sets for the textbook. You only need the column labeled gpa.
- You will be asked to put
your values for the mean of your sample on a class histogram, so be
sure to copy down this value before turning in your homework.
II. No new reading for today. After discussing the extensions of the
second two written homework problems, we should have some time for
catch-up and/or review, so be sure to:
- Look over any exercises from Chapters 1 - 3 not yet discussed in class
- Look over the Review
Problems for the exam and bring any questions you have on them.
- Bring questions on the Project Proposal.
