Dr. David M. Young's 80th Birthday Celebration
Center for Numerical Analysis (CNA) is an organized research
unit of
The University of Texas at Austin.
It is a subcenter within the
Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (ICES).
The faculty, staff, and students in the CNA are actively
involved in carrying
out research in numerical anlaysis, writing technical papers,
and coding mathematical software.
Our scientific research contributes to knowledge in
numerical analysis, scientific computation, and
mathematical software development. This is useful not only to
faculty and students computer users at the local level but
also to a larger group of mathematical software users worldwide.
Outside grants that support the research provide faculty
summer salary support as well as for graduate research assistants
in the CNA. Although the CNA is not a teaching department, it
contributes to education in numerical analysis in many ways.
Members of the senior staff of the Center hold joint appointments
in academic departments such as the Departments of
Computer Sciences,
Mathematics,
Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics
as well as the
Computational and Applied Mathematics graduate program.
In this capacity, they teach courses and
seminars in addition to supervising the work of undergraduate
and graduate students.
