About meI am an assistant professor in the mathematics department at the University of Texas at Austin. I'm also a Clay Research Fellow. I am interested in geometric topology in dimensions 3–5, especially questions about knotted surfaces in 4-manifolds. | ||||
In my free time, I collect Rubik's Cubes and enjoy other puzzles like crosswords and acrostics. Check out this Quanta article about a paper I co-authored in May 2022. |

Things I co-organizeTrisectors Workshop 2024: Connections with Knotted Surfaces at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, 24–28 2024 What's your trick? A non-traditional conference in low-dimensional topology at BIRS, a week-long workshop on clever ideas in topology in August 2024 (and some past links)Geometric Topology Grad and Postdoc Seminar (GT GAPS), a weekly Zoom seminar. This is now organized by Clair Dai, Vivian He, and Aru Mukherjea. Here's the website for "Topology in Dimension 4.5," a conference I co-organized at BIRS in November 2022. You can access the compiled problems and some of the speakers' lecture notes there. |
Other things I'm participating in2024 Simons Collaboration on New Structures in Low-Dimensional Topology Annual Meeting, 28–29 March 2024 Advanced school: Insights into knots, homologies and physics at the University of Warsaw, 13–17 May 2024 41st Workshops in Geometric Topology at Calvin University: Surfaces in 4-manifolds, 13–15 June 2024 Summer school – New structures in low-dimensional topology at the Renyi Institute, 1–5 July 2024 I am in an AIM SQuaRE with Paolo Aceto, Nickolas Castro, JungHwan Park, and András Stipsicz. We will study Casson–Gordon homotopy 4-balls and related problems. |
