COURSE INFORMATION

This is a rigorous treatment of the real number system, of real sequences, and of limits, continuity, derivatives, and integrals of real-valued functions of one real variable.

CLASS MATERIAL

Textbook: Introduction to Real Analysis
Robert G. Bartle and Donald R. Sherbert.
3rd Edition, Wiley.

HOMEWORK

There will be weekly homework assignments posted on Blackboard.
Collaborations are encouraged, but you have to present your own solutions. Simply copying somebody else's work is not acceptable.

The handin time of the HW's is at the beginning of the Thursday classes (or earlier).
No late handins are accepted.

There will be 2 in-class exams, during regular class hours:

EXAM II on Thursday, April 16, 2009

FINAL EXAM

There is a final exam. The date and time will be announced by the Registrar about one month before the end of the semester.

FINAL EXAM, Saturday, May 16, 2009. Time: 2 - 5 PM. Location WRW 113.


It is implicit in your registration for this class that, barring some unforeseen calamity, you affirm to be present to take the final examination at this time.

GRADING

The class grade will be determined as follows:

Homework: 10 percent
Exam 1: 25 percent
Exam 2: 25 percent
Final: 40 percent

The letter grades are distributed as follows:

90 - 100 points: Grade A
80 - 89 points: Grade B
70 - 79 points: Grade C
60 - 69 points: Grade D
0 - 59 points: Grade F

Class attendance is required. This is a difficult course that will necessitate a significant investment of time and effort.
If you don't keep track of the material as we go along and stay up to date, you will not be able to catch up later.
